Preparing for Gynaecological Surgery
What to Expect Before Your Procedure
This is a general overview to help you feel prepared and confident. Full, personalised instructions will be provided by Dr Michael Wynn-Williams and our team as part of your surgical care.
Before Your Procedure
The admin team will work with you to choose a suitable surgery date. Once your surgery is booked, you’ll receive a confirmation email with links to complete hospital and anaesthetic registration. One week before surgery, confirmation of admission details, fasting instructions, hospital location, what to bring, and any required pre-operative tests will be sent to you.
What to Expect on the Day
You’ll be admitted to Allevia Hospital Ascot via the admissions centre. You will meet your anaesthetist and the surgical team, and undergo your procedure. Once the surgery is complete, you will be transferred to recovery and then the ward if you are staying overnight.
Pre-Operative Checklist
In the weeks or days before surgery, you will see Dr Wynn-Williams for a preoperative consultation. You will discuss the planned procedure, its benefits and risks. Finally, you will complete a surgical consent. The admin team will send you an email with comprehensive preoperative instructions, including admission and fasting times. Your anaesthetist will phone you a few days before surgery to discuss your anaesthetic and pain relief.
Recovery
Prior to surgery, you will receive detailed recovery instructions and a post-op consultation will be arranged either in person or via telehealth. Your surgical pathology results will be sent by email within approximately two weeks.
